Emission scandal smudged diesel's image — GM execs

Speaking at a Washington event led by the Diesel Technology Forum, the executives said American consumers must be able to trust automakers that sell diesel cars.

"One of the reasons we're here today is to make people aware of the fact that diesel technology is not responsible for what happened in the past," said Pierpaolo Antonioli, CEO and executive director of GM Global Propulsion Systems in Turin, Italy. "And we as a company want to be trustable."

Diesel Technology Forum Executive Director Alan Schaeffer said in an interview that while many states are spending VW settlement money on electric vehicle charging infrastructure, replacing older diesel vehicles with newer models is key to curbing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector.
