Dayton schools get EPA grants to help buy low-emissions buses

The federal and state Environmental Protection Agencies are giving Dayton Public Schools $330,000 in grants to help DPS buy lower-emissions school buses that are safer for children, drivers and the community.

 The grants will cover 25% of the cost for 15 new clean-diesel buses to be purchased in 2020. U.S. EPA Chief of Staff Kurt Thiede, who announced the grants, said switching out those 15 buses will reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides, fine soot particles and carbon monoxide by almost 3 tons per year.
