LA Auto Show Green Buzz Includes Clean Diesel

The 2016 LA Auto Show media preview has come to a close, and many had product announcements that dealt with green vehicles, including electric cars and clean diesels.

The 2016 LA Auto Show media preview has come to a close, and had many product announcements that dealt with green vehicles, including electric cars and clean diesels. Here’s a quick rundown of the latest on the diesel front.

Mazda’s announcement that it will be offering its SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel engine in its new 2017 SUV crossover, the CX-5, in the second half of 2017 was long anticipated and well-received. The CX-5 is Mazda’s best-selling model in the U.S.

Chevrolet displayed their 2018 Chevrolet Equinox and its 1.6L diesel engine that will be making its way into that vehicle in early 2017. Chevrolet estimates the turbodiesel engine will deliver 40 mpg on the highway. Joining the Equinox display, Chevrolet highlighted its diesel powertrain in its media program introducing the Chevy Colorado ZR2 model.

FCA put their commitment to clean diesel on display in the form of the popular 3.0L EcoDiesel engine available in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 pickup.

At the show Green Car Journal Magazine announced that two diesels will vie for Luxury Green Car of the Year - the Jaguar XE 20d and Range Rover Td6. The award will be presented at the Washington Auto in Washington, DC in January 2017.

In an interview in Los Angeles BMW’s Manager of Product Planning and Strategy Richard Steinberg said a full contingent his company’s diesel models would return to the market in 2017 and he expects solid demand for them.
