New Light-Duty Diesels Coming to North American Market

Model Debuts at LA Auto Show Demonstrate Continued Market Opportunity for Diesel in North America

Dec. 13, 2017 (LOS ANGELES) – Even as the buzz around alternative powertrain options grows, auto manufacturers around the globe continue to recognize the important role diesel engines play in today’s market. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, several major auto manufacturers announced new diesel-powered options and product enhancements coming soon to North America:

“Consumers continue to demand a variety of powertrains, including clean diesel options. The new product offerings in 2018 will be welcome additions,” said Allen Schaeffer, executive director of the Diesel Technology Forum. “One of diesel’s strengths in the North American market is the variety of vehicle types that are offered with a diesel powertrain. As a result, sales in the United States of diesel-powered cars, pickup trucks and vans continue to track directly alongside the sale volumes of battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. In November 2017, diesel vehicle sales totaled 7,800 vehicles, while battery-electric and plug-in hybrid each came in at around 8,400 vehicles.”

Also on display in Los Angeles were two diesel-powered concept models:
