Nearly every major automobile manufacturer has announced plans to market diesel vehicles in the U.S. Following is a list of anticipated diesel product offerings based on press announcements and media reports.
Acura
Acura has pushed back the planned introduction of the new i-DTEC clean diesel engine (in both 4-cylinder and V-6 version) to the North American market. Read more here.

Chevrolet
Chevy appears to be moving ahead with a smaller 4.5-liter version of its Duramax diesel for its light-duty pickups and possibly SUVs. It could be delayed as the company is pushing back many new product plans. Read more here.

GM will be offering the Chevrolet Silverado with a 4.5-liter diesel engine in 2009. Click here to read more. The company also has plans to start producing a 4.5L V8 light-duty diesel truck in 2010.
GM is expected to offer a new V8 turbodiesel with a 30% gain in fuel economy over the gasoline version. Read the Automotive News article to learn more.
The V6 diesel engine that powers the CTS provides over 400 ft-lb of torque, outperforming even a V8 gasoline engine. Read more in Diesel Power magazine.
A video posting on GM blog http://fastlane.gmblogs.com confirmed a diesel offering for the Saturn Aura. A diesel-hybrid version of the engine was shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Mercedes-Benz E320 sedan will go 50 states legal with its 3.0-liter diesel V6 at the model change in 2010.
Mercedes hopes to launch a hybrid diesel ML320 in Europe later this year and bring it to the U.S. soon after.
Not long after the ML320 hybrid, Mercedes will bring its S400 BLUE TEC hybrid to market; it originally was planned as a 2009 model.
MINI
BMW is working on a Tier 2 Bin 5 compliant version of the MINI D engine. Instead of urea injection for NOx reduction, this would use a lean NOx trap like the Jetta TDI. The time frame for introduction is still to be determined.
Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi Lancer

Mitsubishi is developing a next-generation common rail turbo-diesel engine which will be compliant with U.S. Tier II Bin 5 emissions and plan on making the engine available in their Lancer Sports Sedan from 2010.

Porsche has backtracked on its statements that its models would never use diesel power and began production of a 3.0-liter diesel-powered Cayenne SUV.

Saab is currently developing its new 9-4X SUV with plans to introduce the model in the United States with a diesel option in 2010.
SMART
Smart ForTwo
2010
The Smart ForTwo didn’t need any help in its first year on the U.S. market, but it has been selling diesel versions in Canada for three years. The Smart Car of America community thinks a U.S. diesel is likely in 2010 at the earliest.

Subaru has developed the world's first Boxer Diesel engine for use in passenger cars and has plans to introduce the engine in its Legacy and Outback models in 2010.

Toyota had announced plans for a 2010 diesel engine for its Tundra pickup and possibly the Sequoia SUV, developed with its partner Isuzu, but those plans are on hold because of the economy.

The Passat CC is Volkswagen's first model in the "Four Door Coupe" segment and offers the functionality of a four door sedan with the styling and dynamics of a coupe. The Passat CC will be available with VW's "Clean TDI" engine beginning in 2009.
The Touareg gets a powerful and economical 3.0-liter V6 diesel in version 2.
Volkswagen will be building their small Polo, whose BlueMotion version gets 60 mpg, in Mexico, for easy import to the US. Volkswagen also said diesels would find their way into a wider array of its US models in future years, without specifying the vehicles. Volvo
Volvo has announced its decision to release a diesel passenger car on the North American market by the end of 2010. Specific details of engine and model availability have yet to be disclosed.
