Letter to the Editor - Healthier System
Kudos to Frank Kreusi and the Chicago Transit Authority for standing firm on their commitment to cleaner diesel fuel and clean air, ("CTA rejects big fuel discount offer," Metro, Jan. 5).
They've made a serious commitment bringing in cleaner fuel more than a year before it is required and have upgraded a large number of existing buses with new emissions control technology. This clean diesel technology is cutting emissions of fine particles, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide by as much as 90 percent, delivering air quality benefits every day to everyone in the region.
CTA's leadership and commitment to using cleaner low-emissions diesel fuel is key to these benefits and bringing the advanced technology in more than two years before it is mandated for use nationwide, and upgrading existing buses with emissions control devices is the right course.
