Laker School District Receives Grant To Clean Up Bus Emissions
School kids in the Thumb will get a lesson in cleaner air this year - on the bus and in the classroom.
The Laker School District near Pigeon has received a $59,120 federal grant to help retrofit a dozen buses with emission-reducing equipment and replace the district's oldest bus with a new, low-emission model.
The district also will begin using cleaner-burning B-20 in its buses, or fuel that's 20 percent bio-based, up from B-2 fuel used currently.
