IndyGo Unveils Bus with Clean Air Message
As part of its ongoing partnership with the city of Indianapolis' Knozone program, the city's public transportation agency, IndyGo, unveiled a bus wrapped with the message "Clean air is in" on January 16. The bus is designed to promote environmentally friendly behaviors and working together to make a visible difference to central Indiana's air quality.
"Clean air is in" is the theme unveiled by Knozone in 2005 as part of an awareness campaign promoting small steps residents can make to improve local air quality. Knozone has partnered with IndyGo on several initiatives to increase participation in bus ridership and other commuting options, primarily focusing on increasing bus ridership on Knozone Action Days.
IndyGo also noted that it is making progress toward improving the air quality of its bus fleet. The system is switching its entire bus fleet to ultra-low sulfur diesel, plus 10 percent soy biofuel to reduce pollutants and vehicle wear and tear and to increase fuel efficiency. Additionally, IndyGo said it will retrofit older buses with particulate filters by May to eliminate 90 percent of fine particulate matter.
