BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance
Nearly every major automobile manufacturer has announced plans to market diesel vehicles in the United States in the near future.
BMW Group announced this week that it will debut two vehicle models equipped with the BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit – the X5 xDrive35d and the 335d – successfully meeting the strict exhaust emissions requirements of the North American automobile market.
These clean diesels combine a higher standard of driving dynamics with a significant reduction in both fuel consumption and emissions.
The new BMW vehicles reach stringent emissions standards using AdBlue, a small dose of urea which causes a chemical reaction within the exhaust system that effectively reduces nitric oxides (NOX) into environmentally compatible nitrogen and water. The AdBlue maintenance system is designed so customers can enjoy continuous driving, without having to change their vehicle service intervals. A BMW diesel in the 2008 model year generates only 1 percent of the particulate emissions originally contained in the exhaust gas of a 1983 diesel model.
This innovative technology now fulfills US market demands in terms of power, performance, running smoothness, efficiency and emission limits. Both the 335d and the X5 xDrive35d will be launched in all 50 US states in the fall of 2008.
