Auto Analysts Predict Increase In 'Clean' Diesels Over Hybrids
Auto industry analysts expect domestic and foreign car companies to offer the American public almost twice as many advanced diesel vehicles by 2013 than hybrid or flexible-fuel vehicles (FFVs) to improve fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, based on cost, customer needs, fuel availability and performance. An analyst with J.D. Power & Associates says he expects diesel vehicles to make up about 9 percent of the U.S. car fleet by 2013, up from today's 3.2 percent, while hybrid vehicles will increase from today's 1.2 percent to about 5 percent by 2013.
