How Diesel Technology Powers Our Economy

Diesel is the backbone of the American economy, contributing $85 billion each year to our domestic growth.

Many of the vehicles we see every day are powered by diesel – from the equipment used in building and construction, to our emergency response and military vehicles, to the railways that move goods across the country. In short, diesel technology truly powers our economy.

Road SceneDiesel power is cleaner and plays a greater role in preserving our environment than ever before. The diesel industry is on a path to produce virtually emissions-free vehicles and equipment while still retaining the efficiency, reliability and power long associated with diesel. This environmental progress is the result of the new clean diesel system - combining cleaner diesel fuel, advanced engines and effective exhaust-control technology.

In addition, diesel's 20 to 40 percent greater fuel economy means that this technology is helping conserve our precious resources and reduce dependence on foreign sources of oil. Plus, modern clean diesel technology is protecting our public health and safety. The emergency response vehicles and power generators used during a blackout are all diesel power, as are the vehicles and equipment that help ensure U.S. homeland security.
