Clean Diesel Technology Showcase Highlights Diesel Power`s Current, Future Importance
From clean-construction equipment and the latest farm tractors to the cleanest big-rig trucks and most fuel-efficient diesel cars and pick-ups, attendees could kick the tires, look under the hoods and climb into the seats of the most advanced diesel vehicles and equipment being used to power today's economy while helping to solve tomorrow's environmental, energy and climate challenges.
The Honorable Gina McCarthy, Assistant Adminstrator for Air and Radiation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency delivered keynote remarks praising the industry’s march to clean diesel as a success story. See the full transcript here.
Other speakers included:
- Tana Utley, VP and Chief Technical Officer, Caterpillar and Dr. John Wall, VP and Chief Technology Officer of Cummins, Inc. highlighted the staying power, and transformative steps industry has taken to reduce emissions while enhancing performance and conserving energy.
- Steve Sandherr, CEO of the Associated General Contractors of America highlighted the importance of diesel power to the construction industry and their Clean Construction initiatives taking place around the country.
- Glenn Kedzie, Vice President and Environmental Counsel of the American Trucking Association noted that diesel was the lifeblood of the trucking industry, and how fleets have embraced clean diesel trucks, and highlighted ATA’s Sustainability Principles that include clean diesel.
- Richard Schekells, head of environmental issues for the Maryland Port Administration and the Port of Baltimore highlighted the many essential uses of diesel power at the Port of Baltimore, making it an international gateway of commerce. He outlined how the Port will be using its recovery act funding to modernize and upgrade marine work boat engines, drayage trucks and cargo handling equipment, all powered by diesel.
Participating organizations also included the American Farm Bureau Federation, the American Association of Port Authorities, the American School Bus Council, the National Groundwater Association and the Port of Baltimore.
